It’s no surprise that Washington state has more tech employers than just about any other state in the nation. Dozens of tech companies in Washington state break the 100+ employee mark and Amazon plans to add another 100,000 jobs to that number by mid-2018.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, has plans to increase its workforce by about 30%. However, many of these jobs may be outside of Washington. Amazon has tripled its workforce of 2013, and currently, it is the largest tech employer headquartered in Washington state.
Other global companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, and Accenture are also major players in the 100+ employee category when it comes to tech jobs. This attracts many tech talents to the Washington area and specifically Puget Sound and the Seattle region.
Although the Seattle home prices are rapidly increasing they are still nowhere near the highly overinflated prices of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Plus, many people love the Pacific Northwest so this is just one of the many reasons tech employees are gravitating toward our region.
Other reasons include excellent school systems, beautiful typography, a combination of sports and performing arts, a wide variety of landscape and of course our ski to see benefits rivaled by no one along the West Coast.
Seattle’s biggest employers include Boeing, with about 80,000 workers, the Joint Base Lewis McCord, followed closely by Microsoft, employing about 42,000 local residents.
Amazon has about 25,000 employees in the Seattle area alone, not including Bellevue and Kirkland. The University of Washington employs about 25,000 residents followed closely with Providence Health and Services, Walmart, Weyerhaeuser, Fred Meyer and King County government.
In addition to local skilled giants such as Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Starbucks, Costco. In recent years, more and more local technology giants have also stationed in Seattle.
