Salesforce.com has recently announced it will be leasing a Bellevue office space and has proposed plans to double its local workforce. The San Francisco-based company will expand to the Seattle area creating one of the largest engineering centers outside of the bay area.
Salesforce.com is primarily a cloud computing company, which could give rise to Seattle area’s prominence in cloud computing. This expanded engineering Center lays way for other Northern California tech companies to build satellite facilities in this area including Facebook, Twitter and Google. Jim Walsh, salesforce’s vice president of engineering stresses the fact that they need to be in the Seattle area, primarily to utilize the wealth of talent in the Puget Sound. The building is located at 929 108th St. NE. and will be the anchor tenant for this new building. The company originally leased a 12,000 ft.² Seattle office tower in 2010 and has since acquired other cloud marketing companies such as ExactTarget. This new expansion will triple the amount of office space Salesforce has in the Puget Sound.
The new office space has room for over 500 additional employees adding to the already 16,000 total employees the company reported earlier 2015. The move to Bellevue will bring the company closer to similar tech companies such as Microsoft. There have been rumors that Microsoft has discussed purchasing Salesforce but a price could not be agreed upon. However, in 2014, the two companies decided to partner on several different products and projects.
