What is a real estate agent?

Real estate agents are one of the pillars of the United States’ real estate industry. We are licensed professionals skilled in various real estate services and transactions. The main goal is to assist buyers to find the right property (sellers) (and vice versa), negotiate a fair deal, and successfully close it.

How we work

Real estate agents have different work styles. Moreover, we can also specialize in different services and markets. Some of us represent both buyers or sellers, while others focus and build their expertise in just one group. You will find real estate agents who deal with commercial and residential properties and real estate agents who choose to focus on just one type.

A buyer’s agent is what we call a real estate agent who chooses to devote his or her expertise representing only home buyers. A listing agent is a broker who will typically specialize in representing sellers.

You can think of your real estate agent as some sort of a liaison officer, representing your best interests throughout the whole buying or selling process. We’re right with you, from the initial stages and right down to negotiations and closing.

I’m a real estate broker affiliated with Compass Washington, a world-class brokerage who is building the first modern real estate platform pairing the industry’s top talent with technology to make the search and sell experience intelligent and seamless.

Real estate agents typically get paid by the seller through commissions. This is usually a percentage of a property’s sale price.

The difference between a real estate agent, a real estate broker, and a realtor

As you look for the best Chinese real estate agent to represent you in Seattle’s housing market, you’ll come across three, oft-confused terms. These are real estate agent, real estate broker, and realtor. What makes them different from each other?

In Washington State, a real estate agent or broker are essentially the same designations. They are a professional licensed to arrange real estate transactions.

Agents and brokers can also be realtors, but only if they are a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). It’s a trade association open to various real estate professionals, including appraisers, property managers… basically many occupations in the real estate industry.

As a member of NAR, realtors are expected to adhere to a code of ethics. They must also be part of a board or a local real estate association. As of date, NAR has 1.3 million members in North America.
